Digital Radiology

X-ray Evaluation

X-rays are useful in evaluating a number of areas of your pet's body, including bones, lungs, the heart, abdomen and oral cavity. With the advent of digital radiography, our hospital is able to take high-quality, digital x-rays of your pet. Our hospital has a state-of-the-art digital radiography unit that produces excellent quality digital x-rays. Digital radiographs are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical problems.

The advantage of digital radiology are many. The time spent taking your pets' radiographs is significantly shorter, and fewer pictures need to be taken to achieve a perfect result. This means less stress for your pet, making their experience here much more pleasant! If a second opioion is necessary, x-rays can be e-mailed to a veterinary radiology specialist, making consults much easier and faster than by sending them by regular mail. In addition, the quality of digital images is much higher than traditional x-rays.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging procedure that complements x-rays and allows our clinicians to better visualize internal organs in the chest and abdomen. This painless diagnostic technique is normally done without sedation of your pet. Ultrasound is invaluable for making treatment decisions for various types of heart disease. It also allows us to biopsy organs such as the liver, kidney and spleen through a tiny "keyhole" incision. By using ultrasound, major surgery can sometimes be avoided and your pet can often go home the same day.

At Uptown Vets, our ultrasounds are performed by board-certified internist Dr. Patrick Hopper right here at our own location, eliminating the need to travel to a specialist.

Diagnostic Laboratory

A pet that appears healthy can often be hiding symptoms of disease. Routine blood testing helps your veterinarian learn things about your pet's health that cannot be spotted during routine physical examinations.

We are equipped with sophisticated instruments that allow us to measure many laboratory values. As a compliment to our regular laboratory services, our in-house diagnostic capabilities allow us to get results pre-surgically, or in an emergency, within minutes.

Our extensive laboratory services provide information that is critical to the sick or injured pet. We have access, both in-house and at our centralized reference laboratory, to extensive diagnostic testing, allowing animals to receive appropriate treatment in a timely manner. Our laboratory is capable of processing a number of blood tests, including cholesterol, blood glucose and complete blood counts. We also process pre-anesthetic blood tests, which are a often necessary before your pet undergoes surgery.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy

Endoscopy allows our veterinarians to look inside your pet using a series of small cameras attached to a flexible tube. This lets the doctor look inside a body cavity or organ and diagnose a problem without invasive surgery. Using endoscopy, biopsies, cultures and removal of foreign objects from the lungs, stomach or intestines. Endoscopies are less stressful than standard surgery and allow for a quicker recovery time for your pet.

At Uptown Vets, endoscopies are performed by board-certified internist Dr. Patrick Hopper right here at our own location, eliminating the need to travel to a specialist.
