"We have been going to Uptown Vets since they have opened their doors. Our very first visit with Dr. Obernesser was a breath of fresh air. She took so much time and attention in understanding the background of our pet and provided a comprehensive plan of action for care.”
Dr. Ina Obernesser opened Uptown Vets in September 2007, in a Harlem neighbnorhood under-served in quality veterinary care. In keeping with our motto—“Big City Medicine with a Neighborhood Touch”—we take pride in offering cutting-edge, comprehensive veterinary care, while building close, ongoing relationships with each of our clients and their pets, who we truly see as our companions, too.
At our hospital, located between the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, and Harlem, our doctors and technicians are vigorous about their continuing education. We keep current on advances in veterinary medicine via seminars, conferences, and as active members in local and national professional organizations.
Our AAHA accreditation is important to us, not just for the decal on our door, but for the protocols and procedures we refine to maintain accreditation. These form the backbone of our rigorous efforts to stay at the forefront of medicine while putting our patients’ well-being first.
In 2015 Uptown Vets became an accredited Cat Friendly Practice, meeting the stringent standards set by the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Cats are not small dogs, and we provide special care for them from the minute they step in the door until well after their visits.
We're also proud of our work with a number of rescue groups, including NYSave, The Mayor's Alliance, Pet Rescue NY, NEADS Service Dogs for the Deaf and Disabled, plus other, smaller, non-profit groups. Through them we've been able to provide proper healthcare to innumerable homeless animals, and more often than not assist in placing them in new "forever" homes.
